Warsaw, Wawasee Offer More At Track Qualifiers
Individuals from both Warsaw and Wawasee’s girls track teams made cases for state showings at the Bulldog Invite hosted by IPFW on Saturday. Warsaw’s girls also worked at Indiana Wesleyan in continued efforts to qualify for the Hoosier State Relays.
Warsaw had both its distance medley relay and its 4×800 relay place third, the distance at 13:04.27 and the 4×8 at 9:57.35. Anna Craig had a solid run in the 3,200 for the Tigers, placing fourth at 12:00.01. Natalia McGuire finished seventh in the long jump at 15-0 and Bayly Dobbins was ninth in high jump at 4-8 for Warsaw.
Warsaw’s Brock Riley was first in high jump at 6-4, Rane Kilburn was second in long jump at 20-4 and Tommy Hickerson was third at 20-0 in long jump. The 4×200 relay of Kilburn, Landen Perry, Ross Armey and Brandon Reinholt were second at 1:35.22.
Wawasee had three athletes show well in individual events. Katlyn Kennedy made a strong case for a state finals spot in shot put, sending her best toss 36-4, a foot further than a week ago at Indiana Wesleyan.
Hannah-Marie Lamle was 13th in the 60-meter hurdles at 10.54 and Elizabeth Zorn was 12th in the 3,200 at 12:37.64. Wawasee’s top boys result came from its distance medley relay of Spencer Hare, Dylan Hepler, Luke Griner and Sam Griner, which placed eighth.
Stated Wawasee head coach Scott Lancaster of his team’s performances, “We did a lot of nice things against a tough field. We are making progress. One thing is evident from the past two weeks of indoor competition – the Northern Lakes Conference for both boys and girls will be tough.”
At Indiana Wesleyan, Warsaw’s 4×800 relay team of Hannah Dawson, Brooke Rhodes, Claire Kehler and Madeline Hooks were first (10:21.09) as was the distance medley team of of Kehler, Dawson, Morgan Bruner and Remi Beckham (13:50.54).
The trio of Emma Hayward (12:17.52), Charlene Orr (12:17.56) and Lauren Orr (12:21.91) were second through fourth in the 3,200 run, and Audrey Rich was third (8.19) in the 60-meter dash to highlight some of Warsaw’s efforts.
The state finals for the Hoosier State Relays is March 26 at Purdue University.
