Dorothy M. Bailey
Dorothy M. Bailey of Winona Lake, passed away at 12:20 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 2016 at her residence at the age of 89.
She was a 1943 graduate of Harper High School in Chicago and in 1968 she graduated from Northern Illinois University. Dorothy was an elementary school teacher for 20 years in DeKalb, Ill.
She was a member of The Federated Church in Sycamore, Ill., and attended Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Warsaw. Dorothy was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and DCRTA.
She was born on June 28, 1926, in Chicago, Ill., to Joseph Smrt and Emily (Kretschmer) Smrt. In April 20, 1944, in Joplin, Mo., she was married to Lt. Herb Bailey, who passed away in January 1966.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter: Penelope (husband James) Grogan, Orlando, Fla.,; two sons: Herb (wife Anne) Bailey Jr., Warsaw; and Scott (Nina) Bailey, Sycamore, Ill. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Herb III (wife Sarah) Bailey, Warsaw; Heidi (husband Gary) Leininger, Warsaw; Ian (Michelle) Bailey, Bloomington; Hannah Bailey, Austin, Texas; and four great-grandchildren: Mandy Whittaker, Emily Bailey, Josie and Jules Leininger.
She was preceded in death by husband, her mother: Emily Smrt in December 1982; father: Joseph Smrt in January 1986; brother-in-law: George Zitek in March 2006; and her sister: Gladys Zitek in October 2010.
A memorial service and a celebration of her life will be held at 4 p.m.Saturday, March 19, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw and officiated by Chaplain Bryan Benjamin. Burial at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.
