INDIANA — In a recent two-part Wallethub study Indiana was ranked number 23 for real-estate taxes and number 35 for vehicle property tax.
The study looked at several things that go into determining each ranking including the effective real-estate tax, state median home value for one category and effective vehicle tax rate for the other.
Coming in first for the first category, real-estate taxes, was Hawaii with a .28 percent effective real-estate tax rate, $489 annual taxes on a $176,000 home, a state median house value of $504,500, and $1,405 annual taxes on a home price at median value.
Twenty-four states tied for first in the second category, vehicle property tax, including Hawaii, Ohio, Oklahoma, Illinois and New York.
