Clampitt Leads Valley Rally To Victory
NAPPANEE – Neil Clampitt picked a great time to have his Senior Moment Friday night.
The Tippecanoe Valley standout saved his best for last to lead his team to a thrilling comeback win over Fairfield in a sectional semifinal game of the Class 3-A NorthWood Sectional.
Clampitt scored all 16 of his points in the final quarter of play as the Vikings stormed back from a 10-point deficit in the last stanza.
Valley trailed 39-29 entering the final frame before outscoring the Falcons 26-10 in the fourth quarter.
Valley (12-12) earns the right to face host and No. 1 NorthWood (22-2) in the sectional finale back at the Panther Pit Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. Top-ranked NorthWood blasted Lakeland 62-39 in the other semifinal contest Friday night.
The Vikings, who had lost 49-35 to Fairfield at a tournament back on December 29, showed their mettle in this one. Valley trailed 16-10 after the opening frame and were down 28-12 at halftime to the Falcons before rallying.
The Vikings hit 8-15 shots from the field in the final frame, including 3-7 from distance. Valley also hit a clutch 7-8 from the free throw line in the 26-point outburst in the last stanza. Fairfield was just 3-9 from the field in the last quarter, including 2-7 from distance. The Falcons were 2-3 from the line in the fourth quarter.
Standout guard Alec Craig led the way for Valley with 17 points. Jarod Duzenbery and Brandon Webster each finished with 10 points. Craig and Clampitt each had five rebounds.
Valley out rebounded the Falcons 24-21 and also had just four turnovers, while Fairfield committed 14 miscues.
The Vikings shot 20-46 overall from the field, including 6-19 from distance. Valley was 9-11 from the line in the win.
Coach Bill Patrick’s Valley squad has won six in a row and seven of its last eight games.
Brock Goeglein scored 17 points to lead the Falcons, who finish at 13-10. Luke Stephens had 15 points for Fairfield.
Fairfield went 18-34 overall from the field, including 8-17 from deep. The Falcons were 5-7 from the line.
