Triton Honors Newest HOF Class
BOURBON – The Triton Athletic Hall of Fame inducted its latest class on Saturday, Feb. 27, at the fourth-annual Hall of Fame induction banquet. The Hall of Fame recognized a contributor, coach, and three student athletes. Rounding out this year’s class were Ball Auction and Realty – Contributor; Coach Jan Caudle; Ashli Senff – Athlete; Brad Sellers – Athlete; and Jon Parker – Athlete.
The five inductees were honored during the Hall of Fame weekend that began with the Triton-Knox boys basketball game Feb. 26 followed by the dinner ceremony at the Back Forty in Bourbon last Saturday.
Said Triton High School athletic director Mason McIntyre, who developed the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011, “I believe it’s important to know and understand our rich athletic tradition. Since the school’s inception during the 1963-64 school year, many athletes have worn the blue and gold. But these athletes, coaches and contributors that were recognized set themselves apart by running the fastest, winning championships and otherwise distinguishing themselves in high school and college athletics.”
The inductees were chosen by a selection committee of six members who include Larry Lemler, Dave Shively, Ken Blackford, Duane Walters, Hal Kuntz and Roger Schori.
Ball Auction and Realty has been supporting Triton athletics for many years and helped make the Ernie Watkins Pavilion a reality.
Coach Jan Caudle was inducted as the fifth Triton Athletic Hall of Fame coach. She coached volleyball, basketball and track during her 14 years at Triton High School. Her most notable accomplishment was winning the 1976 volleyball sectional championship.
Ashli Senff participated in volleyball, basketball and track at Triton. She went on to play basketball at the University of Evansville. When asked about what she missed most about high school sports Ashli said, “I miss the camaraderie between my teammates and coaches. We were a family, whether it be practices, bus rides, team dinners or games, we all had each others back and a love for one another that can never be duplicated.”
A 1973 graduate, Brad Sellers participated in football, basketball and track at Triton High School. Sellers was the MVP for football and basketball in 1972-73. “I was fortunate to be a part of many successful teams, but I would say that the entire 1971-72 basketball season and those teammates were my favorite.”
Jon Parker, a 1971 graduate of Triton High School, played football, basketball and golf at Triton. Parker was a three-time MVP for the golf team. Parker thanked fellow Hall of Fame member, coach Ron Smith, for helping him achieve his dream of being a high school math teacher and coach and also thanked the late Charlie Smith. “I became a teacher and a coach because of these two men.”
