Ellen Rose (Martin) Mast
Ellen Rose (Martin) Mast, 93, Kouts, passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at the Moses Caregiver Home, Valparaiso.
She was born Sept. 9, 1922, in Pryor, Okla. to the late Arthur and Lydia (Egli) Martin. On June 20, 1941, Rose married Ralph E. Mast who preceded her in death on April 10, 2009.
She is survived by two daughters: Linda (Andy) Farmwald, Milford; Jane (Brian) Gesse, Kouts; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren: Farmwald Family: Chris (Sunday) Farmwald; sons: Andy; CJ; De (Ed) LaMaine; daughter: Hannah; Gesse Family: Stephanie (Stephen) Paradine; children: Lexi (Nick) Smith; Lindsay; Mitch; Melissa (Rob) Resler; children: Nicole; Helena; Will; Becky (Mike) Harper; children: Briana; Eli; Suellen (Jim) Boomer; sons: Jake and Ty; sister: Lina Dominic; brother: Victor (Pat) Martin. Rose was preceded in death by six sisters: Mildred; Ada; Lillian; Evelyn; Verda; and Mary Jean; five brothers: Harold; John; Paul; Ben; Ed; and two great-grandsons: Michael and Brian Harper.
Rose lived in the same house in Kouts for 58 years. She was very active in Kouts, working at the local bank and owning and operating the Rose Lin Shop. Rose was a charter member of the Lamplighters Home Extension Club, volunteered for the Red Cross and an active member of the Hopewell Mennonite Church. Rose and her husband, Ralph moved to Greencroft Retirement Center, Manor 4 in Goshen, where Rose lived until 2014, when she moved back to Kouts to reside with her granddaughter, Suellen and family.
Private Family Services were held with burial at Hopewell Mennonite Cemetery, Kouts. A Memorial Service will be held at Hopewell Mennonite Church, Kouts at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to: Porter County American Red Cross or Hopewell Mennonite Church, Kouts.
