KALAMAZOO — The youngest victim of the Kalamazoo shooting rampage is making a miraculous recovery as family announced the teenage girl has been taken off a ventilator and is now breathing on her own.

The family of Abigail Kopf, 14, posted the good news on her GoFundMe page, calling the development a “milestone.”

“Our hearts are full of joy right now as we celebrate a milestone for Abbie,” the family wrote. “The tube is out she’s breathing on her own. And she wiped her own face with a towel! Bless you all and we have so much gratitude for your support❤”

Supporters were overjoyed to read the positive update and many took to the fundraising page to offer their encouragement.

Kopf survived after a gunman opened fire outside of a Cracker Barrel Feb. 20, killing four others — including the woman Kopf called grandma — as they walked to their cars.

The alleged shooter, Uber driver Jason Dalton, also shot three others, killing two, according to authorities. He is being held on multiple charges, including six counts of murder, and has not entered a plea.

Kopf was originally thought to be among the fatalities, but as doctors discussed organ donation, the resilient teen squeezed her mother’s hand.

The girl squeezed her mother’s hand again when asked if she could hear them. She also gave them two thumbs up.

“My daughter is not dead,” her mother, Vicki Kopf, told reporters at the time.

“She is alive and she is fighting for her life. I want everybody to understand that. Abigail is strong and she is a vibrant, beautiful, young lady. And she did not deserve this. And neither did her grandmother or those other victims.”
