Ruth A. Barron
Ruth A. Barron, 91, Columbia City, passed away at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb, 26, 2016, at her residence. Born on July 3, 1924 in Millville, N.J. she was the daughter of George and Gertrude (Banks) Boogar.
Ruth grew up in Millville, NJ and attended local schools, graduating from Millville High School with the Class of 1941. She then attended Vineland Business College, Vineland, N.J. And following that worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance company for 4 years. On Dec. 31, 1944, Ruth married James R. Barron. Ruth was a homemaker from that point on. Ruth came to Fort Wayne, in 1951, after living in Iowa and Kansas, then in 1961, moved with her family to their farm in Columbia City.
Ruth was an active member of Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church for over 50 years. During that time, she was their organist, pianist, choir director and adult Sunday school teacher. Ruth was also a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group in Columbia City and taught private piano lessons to many over the years.
Survivors include her children, Jamie (Connie) Barron, Paris, Tenn.; Janet Ann (David) Strader and John (Jacqueline) Barron, both of Columbia City; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, and husband James R. Barron.
Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday March 1, at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday March 2, at Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church 7067 S. 500 East, Columbia City, with calling one hour prior. Burial will follow in Jefferson Chapel (Sand Bank) Cemetery, Columbia City.
Memorial contributions in memory of Ruth may be made to Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church.
