Johnson, Anderson Lead Trojans
BOURBON – Triton closed out its boys basketball regular season in style Friday night, clobbering Knox 53-34 at The Trench.
Grant Johnson had one of his best games of the season, scoring 18 points on 8-10 shooting and added six boards and three steals. Jordan Anderson added 16 points, four rebounds and three steals, making hay from behind the three-point arc on 4-10 shooting.
Masen Yeo chipped in nine points and seven rebounds for the Trojans, which finished the regular season 16-7 overall and 6-2 in the inaugural Hoosier North Athletic Conference season.
Triton finished one game out of a tie for the HNAC title, which was shared by Pioneer and Winamac with matching 7-1 conference marks.
Knox (7-16, 2-6 HNAC) were led by the 12 points and five rebounds from Kooper Broeker.
Knox outscored Triton 20-11 in the second half to pull away for a 28-23 JV victory. Brendon Binkley had a huge night for Knox with 19 points. Beau Hepler led Triton with six points and three steals.
Both clubs will now settle into sectional play in their own buildings.
Knox will host the Class 2-A Knox Sectional and play Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Delphi. Triton will host the Class 1-A Triton Sectional and have the bye, awaiting the winner of Tuesday’s South Central (Union Mills) versus Argos matchup. Triton’s game will start at approximately 8 p.m. Friday evening. Culver and North Miami play the sectional’s first game, with Oregon-Davis awaiting the winner in the 6 p.m. game Friday.
