Winter Storm Warning Begins At 8 A.M.
NORTHERN INDIANA — The National Weather Service has stated the winter storm warning is now in effect from 8 a.m. this morning, Feb. 24, to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25. Blizzard conditions are likely to make travel nearly impossible today into this evening over northwest Indiana.
A mix of rain, freezing rain and snow is expected to change to all snow by mid-morning and continue into Thursday. The snow may be heavy at times from mid-morning through early evening.
Storm total snowfall accumulations has now been changed to 8 to 12 inches by late Thursday afternoon. Locally higher accumulations are possible.
The heaviest snowfall is expected from mid-morning today through early evening. North winds will increase to 20 to 30 miles per hour this morning and shift to the northwest tonight and Thursday. Gusts to 35 mph are possible this afternoon into Thursday causing blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibilities especially in rural areas.
Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly through this morning with the most hazardous conditions occurring from mid-morning through this evening.
Scattered tree and power line damage due to the combination of heavy wet snow and strong winds may lead to power outages.
Again travel conditions will become difficult by late morning.
