Wilkins Facing Probation Violation Charges
ELKHART COUNTY —Scott Leon Wilkins, 37, was transported from the Kosciusko County Jail to the Elkhart County Detention Center and booked Tuesday, Feb. 23, on probation violation charges. He is being held on $10,343.50. Wilkins was to appear at 10 a.m. this morning for a hearing on the probation violation.
Wilkins was found guilty late Thursday evening in Kosciusko County on charges of causing death of another person with a schedule I or II controlled substance in the body, a level 4 felony; and failure to stop after an accident resulting in death, a level 5 felony. He was found not guilty on the charge of reckless homicide, a level 5 felony.
The guilty verdict in Kosciusko County stem from the Dec. 27, 2014, fatal accident on CR 1350N, near CR 300W, Milford. Wilkins was determined the driver of the vehicle, which crashed and claimed the life of Kami Ellis, 27, Nappanee. He will be sentenced on March 16.
According to a criminal case detail of his Elkhart County charges, Wilkins was charged on Jan. 26, 2014, in Elkhart County Superior Court 6 with operating a vehicle while intoxicated – endangering a person, a class A misdemeanor; operating a vehicle with a BAC of .08 or more, a class misdemeanor. He was released on bond and on April 23, 2014, he entered a plea agreement.
He was sentenced per the plea agreement on March 19, 2014. He was given a one-year suspended jail sentence, along with paying restitution, on the charge of OWI-endangering a person. He was also given a 90-day jail suspension. On Jan. 5, 2015, a probation violation charge was filed and a warrant issued. His bond was set at $10,00. Additionally on May 27, 2015, an order for confinement for unpaid fines and costs was filed after he failed to pay those fees on May 20. 2015.
