Ervin J. Schwartz
Ervin J. Schwartz, 99, formerly of Nappanee, died at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Wakarusa. He was born Dec. 31, 1916, in Bremen to Joseph and Emma (Miller) Schwartz. On Oct. 6, 1937, he married Maxine Hoffer in Nappanee at Pastor Homer North’s residence. She preceded him in death Oct. 2, 2008
Mr. Schwartz lived his lifetime in this area. He served in CPS Service in Denniston, Iowa, in Civil Engineering. He was a draftsman and designer in the RV and Moblile Home Industry. He also lettered and designed logos for trucks and had several patents. He did design work for Shank Motors, Vitreous, Heckaman Dairy, and designed the Schwartz Electric Logo. Ervin was a member of North Main Street Mennonite Church. He was a woodworker , painter, and artist. He was a chalk artist and did many presentations for area churches. He also played the accordion and harmonica.
Surviving are sons: Jerry (Pam) Schwartz; Darrell (Cheryl) Schwartz, both of Goshen; grandchildren: Jodi (Brian) Bemiller; Matt (Renee) Schwartz; Cindi (Irene) Schwartz; Troy (Tif) Schwartz; great-grandchildren: Brock (Hanna) Bemiller; Courtney Bemiller; Maddie Schwartz; Zach Schwartz; Trajan Schwartz; sisters: Esther Helmuth; Nora (Dale) Welty, both of Wakarusa; Clara Kilmer, Goshen; Nora (Bill) Yoder, New Paris. He was preceded in death by a brother: Ray Schwartz; and sisters: Amanda Weaver; and Lydia Mae Burkey.
Family and friends may call from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at Thompson-Lengacher amd Yoder Funeral Home, Wakarusa. Funeral Service will begin at 5 p.m. Rev. Ruben Chupp will officiate and burial will be in Yellow Creek Mennonite Church Cemetery.
