PIERCETON — Pierceton Volunteer Fire Department along with other volunteer fire departments across the state of Indiana received a total of $15,000 in gifts from Farm Credit Mid-America, a supporter of rural communities and agriculture with reliable, consistent credit and financial services throughout Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. Funds are going to volunteer fire departments to aid in the purchase of grain bin rescue units.
Agriculture is one of the most dangerous professions with over 20 deaths attributed annually to grain bin entrapment. Minutes can save lives when someone is trapped inside a grain bin. With the gift to assist in the purchase of the grain bin rescue units, the Pierceton Volunteer Fire Department will be able to rescue and recover any individual who is trapped in a grain bin or any grain trailer.
The Pierceton Volunteer Fire Department’s work in rural communities fits with Farm Credit’s $2 million Secure the Future of Rural America giving program.
“Supporting agriculture and the rural communities we– and our customers – live and work is part of our mission of keeping America’s rural economy strong,” said Lori Tennell, RVP with Farm Credit Mid-America. “Contributing to programs such as the purchase of the grain bin rescue units for volunteer fire departments is just one of the ways we demonstrate our commitment to rural America.”
Farm Credit is committed to continually evolving to help farmers navigate the complex demands of global agriculture. In addition to developing products and services that keep pace with lending needs, we advocate on our customers’ behalf in the ongoing industry dialogue.
