County Highway Plows Out Until 7 P.M.
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — Kosciusko County Highway plow crews, state highway crews, city and town utilities departments have been working practically nonstop since around 7 a.m. this morning attempting to keep roadways in safe travel conditions.
Scott Tilden, Kosciusko County Highway Department superintendent, said crews have been out since 7 a.m. after roadways began getting slick and plan on staying out until 7 p.m. this evening. Selected plow drivers are to report to fire stations throughout the county by 8 p.m. All plow crews will begin hitting the county roads at 4 a.m. Thursday morning.
“We’ve been concentrating on the main travel roads,” said Tilden adding, “This is a snow where it is very slow (plowing). When you go to turn right, the trucks keep going right. You can’t go very fast and it takes a lot of time. We will hit every road at least once, the main roads twice, before we stop.”
Jeff Beeler, Warsaw city street superintendent, reported at 2:40 p.m. some crews are in the process of removing snow from the downtown area while other crews are working on hitting all city streets. City crews began attacking streets at 6 a.m. Beeler noted a second wave of snowfall is expected to begin at 3 p.m. and the city will have individuals working on city streets throughout the night.
The county is under a watch travel advisory, which indicates that conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. Only essential travel such as to and from work, or in emergency situations is recommended. Businesses, schools, government agencies and other organizations are encouraged to implement their emergency action plans.
Roads remain snow covered and slick and drivers should drive accordingly for the conditions.
