Bethel Women See Season End
MARION – The Bethel College women’s basketball team saw its season come to an end Tuesday night.
The Pilots dropped a 62-49 final to No. 19 Indiana Wesleyan in a quarterfinal game of the Crossroads League Tournament.
The host Wildcats, the No. 3 seed in the tourney, used a big second quarter to take control of the contest. IWU built a 34-23 halftime lead en route to beating the Pilots for the eighth straight time on the hardwood.
The Pilots, who were the No. 6 seed in the tourney, shot just 16-54 from the field in the loss.
Junior guard Aimee Swihart, a Goshen High School product, led the Pilots with 20 points.
Savannah Bley, who played at NorthWood High School, had 12 points for Bethel. Angelique Moore also had 12 points to go with nine rebounds for the Pilots.
Senior Tori Kraft scored a career-high 23 points to lead the way for IWU. Kraft was a perfect 10-10 from the field in the win.
The Pilots finish at 12-19 on the season.
Bethel loses just one player in fifth-year senior Ashley Lutz. The guard, who missed the 2014-15 season due to an injury, averaged 7.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game this season. Lutz played at Penn High School.
IWU improves to 24-7 on the season and will play at Goshen College Friday night at 7 p.m. in a semifinal game of the league tourney.
