UPDATE: Accident Reported on SR 15 North of US 6
UPDATE —One individual has died as a result of a two-vehicle accident on SR 15, south of CR 50, south of New Paris, at 11:41 a.m. today.
Christopher Swihart, 44, no town listed, was pronounced deceased at IU Health Goshen, from injuries sustained in the accident.
A report from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department states Auston Masson, 19, Plymouth, was southbound on SR 15 in a 2002 Honda Accord when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center line and collided head on with a 2004 GMC Sierra. The GMC was driven by Curtis J. Bender, 59, New Paris.
Masson was transported to IU Health Goshen for a possible broken leg. Swihart was a right rear passenger in the Masson vehicle. Other passengers in the Masson vehicle included Matt Miller, 42, who complained of abdominal pain and Jonathon Burkholder, 48, who complained of pain. No towns were listed.
Bender was also transported to the hospital for lacerations to his face and complaint of pain.
NEW PARIS — New Paris Fire Department and EMS and Lutheran EMS are responding to SR 15 North of US Highway 6 for a head-on collision.
Benton Township Fire has been called to assist at the scene.
According to an Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department officer on the scene, three people have been injured after the black passenger car crossed the center line while traveling south on SR 15.
Traffic is backed up and motorist should avoid the area if possible.
