Violet Lavine James
Violet Lavine James, 88, of Madison Township, passed away at 6:30 a.m, Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, in her home.
Violet was born on May 23, 1927, the daughter of the late Herman and Tina (Zieger) Freehauf.
On July 2, 1949, she married Richard James, Sr. He passed away on Jan. 13, 2012.
Violet graduated from Madison High School and worked at Burkliff Hose Assembly for 30 years before her retirement. She also milked cows on their farm for 75 years. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Woodland and loved playing euchre and time spent with family.
Violet is survived by four sons: Richard James, Jr. of Bremen, Roy James of Bremen, Clyde (Tammy) James of South Bend and Glen (Kathy) James of Bremen; nine grandchildren: Sarah (Joe) Shelley, Molly (Dan) Spromberg, Ben (Pam) James, Sam (Amy) James, Holly James, John James, Christy (Owen) Sassaman, Dan (Kasey) James and Matt James. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and six siblings: Edgar Freehauf, Eugene Freehauf, Catherine Stone, Harold Freehauf, Susie Leininger and Treva Freehauf.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016, in St. John’s United Church of Christ, Woodland. Funeral Services will follow at noon with burial in St. John’s United Church of Christ Cemetery. Pastor Chuck Krieg will officiate.
