Terry E. Ickes
Terry E. Ickes, 75, Fort Wayne, passed away at 10:08 a.m. peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016, at his home in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Ickes was born on June 3, 1940, in Garrett, a son of Eugene V. and Lucy “Sis” (Bryie) Ickes. He spent his formative years in Hartford City and rural Churubusco, and graduated from Huntertown High School in 1958. During his early years he and his father were involved in the Churubusco Boy Scouts. After high school he served in the United States Navy.
On April 16, 1966, he was married in Fort Wayne to Beth Ann Hinton, and moved from Churubusco to Fort Wayne where had lived for the last 49 years. He was employed at International Harvester/Navistar, and retired in July of 1992 after 30 years. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and archery. He treasured time with his family especially time with his granddaughters.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 49 years: Beth Ann Ickes, Fort Wayne; two sons: Scott Ickes; David (Melissa) Ickes, both of Fort Wayne; two granddaughters: Cassidy; and Mikayla Ickes. He was preceded in death by his parents: Eugene V. and Lucy ‘Sis’ Ickes.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 22, at Sheets and Childs Funeral Home, with Chaplain Kris McPherson, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Sheets and Childs Funeral Home from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, or one hour prior to the service. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
