Warsaw Teen Waived To Adult Court
WARSAW — A 17-year-old Warsaw teen has been waived to adult court on multiple charges.
Ivan Gonzalez Herrera, 17, 1041 N. Park Avenue, Warsaw, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 10:29 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, then released on his own recognizance.
Court documents show the multiple charges against Herrera. Charges are: two charges of dealing marijuana, both class A misdemeanors; possession of marijuana, a c;ass B misdemeanor; possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor; possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor; visiting a common nuisance, a class B misdemeanor; and maintaining a common nuisance, a level 6 felony. A juvenile charge of corrupt business influence, a level 5 felony, was not noted on adult charges filed.
A motion to waive Herrera from juvenile court was submitted Nov. 24, 2015, and accepted on grounds of Herrera being over the age of 16 at the time of crime. The waiver document states there is probable cause to believe Herrera committed acts that would be offenses if committed by an adult, he is beyond rehabilitation under the juvenile justice systems and it is in the best interest of of Herrera and the community that he be tried as an adult.
Herrera is scheduled for an initial hearing in the Kosciusko Circuit Court at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24.
