Nappanee Man Batters Child
MILFORD — A Nappanee man has been arrested on a charge of battery to a person less than 14 years of age, a level 5 felony, and battery, a class A misdemeanor.
Jesse Doe Walker, 25, whose address was listed as 8784 N. CR425W, Milford, at time of booking into the Kosciusko County Jail Wednesday, Feb. 17. Court documents show his address as 214 Stonewall Court, Nappanee.
According to an affidavit of probable cause Nappanee police officer Kevin Burckart spoke with a female on Nov. 6, 2015, who said her live-in boyfriend, Walker had battered her child in the home on Oct. 4, 2015.
The female reported Walker became angry with the child for not putting toys in the proper location of the minor’s room. Allegedly, Walker picked the minor up and threw her against the wall, causing bruising to the minor’s face and neck. Police were told Walker closed the minor’s bedroom door on the mother and she could hear sounds of spanking on the other side.
Another officer of the Nappanee Police Department, Brook Germann, observed the child had a large bruise to the right eye and a hand print on the cheek, which the child told Germann was from her daddy (Walker).
On Nov. 9, 2015, Zach Hollinger, department of child services, spoke with the child. The minor told Hollinger the spanking happened for not cleaning her bedroom. The child reported Walker threw the couch out and told her he did not want to be her father and spanked her on the bottom using his hand. The child stated she had hand-prints everywhere on her body from being spanked.
Germann spoke with Walker who reported he had disciplined the child for not cleaning her room and for writing on the wall. He admitted he and the child’s mother had argued about the spanking. He stated the mother did not think the child should be spanked, making Walker angry. He told police, he grabbed the child by the arm and jerked her into the bedroom, hitting her head on the side of the door.
Walker admitted to spanking the child and holding her head down, causing injuries to her neck during the spanking. He also admitted he was angry while he was spanking the child.
