Police Identify Woman And Child Killed In Zionsville; Suspect Named
ZIONSVILLE — Police are looking for a man they call their prime suspect in the case of a woman and child found dead inside a Boone County home. They’ve also identified the victims.
Boone County authorities say 31-year-old Katherine Janet Giehll and her 4-year-old son Raymond Peter Giehll IV, were found dead shortly before 9 a.m. today, Feb. 17, at a Zionsville home in the 6800 block of Old Hunt Club Road.
Police are searching for Wabash College employee Lucius Oliver Hamilton III in connection with the murders. He is 61 years old. Hamilton is Katherine Giehll’s uncle but police do not know the motive for the alleged crime.
Hamilton is described as six feet tall, 196 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes.
He was last seen driving a white 2013 Dodge van with Wabash College plate WA25. The van was checked out from the college this morning. Classes were canceled and the campus put on lockdown.
Hamilton was last seen on campus this morning. He is traveling in an unknown direction. He is considered armed and dangerous.
If you think you’ve seen Hamilton, call 911 immediately.
Dozens of officers are at the scene, including Indiana State troopers, and law enforcement from Boone County, Zionsville, Whitestown and Lebanon police agencies.
Boone County Sheriff Mike Nielsen says police are using every resource to determine what happened.
“This is a very tragic event. As you can understand, this is a serious matter, and we need to handle it perfectly. We are utilizing multiple agencies to assist with solving this crime and we will exhaust every resource to help investigate this to the fullest,” said the sheriff.
Sheriff Nielsen called it a “tragic and senseless homicide.”
“We are working diligently and will exhaust all resources to make sure Lucius Hamilton III is apprehended. In my 32 years in law enforcement, I have never witnessed a crime so heinous and heartbreaking.”
“Lucius Hamilton, I want to tell you this. I want to let you know that I will not stop until I find you. We have a great team assembled here, and we will find you and we’ll find you today. I would suggest that if you hear this, or see this, that you turn yourself in to law enforcement immediately.”
When asked about a possible motive, the sheriff replied, “We don’t want to compromise the investigation at this point, so we’re still looking into the motives of why this occurred.”
