Gloria A. Line Shoemaker
Gloria A. Line Shoemaker, 82, South Whitley, died at 8:40 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, at Miller’s at Oak Pointe, Columbia City, where she had been a resident since Thursday, Feb. 11.
She was born Jan. 21, 1934, in Whitley County, a daughter of Verne K. and Della M. (Gause) Yant. She attended school in Collins and completed her education at Columbia City High School.
In 1969 she moved to South Whitley and began owning and operating H&D (Black Oak) Tavern for 15 years, then Corner Café for 12 years and South Whitley Package Liquor for 10 years until August, 2006.
She was a lifetime member of Columbia City VFW Post 5582 Auxiliary, Pierceton American Legion Auxiliary and United States Bowling Congress.
Surviving relatives include three children: Mary (Pat) Schaper, Albion, Michael Line, South Whitley, and Rex Line, Columbia City; five grandchildren; and two brothers: James (Nancy) Yant, Columbia City, and Ronald (Barb) Yant, Fort Wayne.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson.
There will be no visitation. A private graveside service will be held at South Park Annex Cemetery.
