Warsaw Distance Runners Brave Milk, Cold
WARSAW – Nothing was going to slow down the dedicated members of the Warsaw Distance Club Friday.
Not the cold or snow or even a whole lot of milk.
Milk?
Some 45 members of the club, including many members of the WCHS boys and girls cross country programs, took part in the second annual Milk Mile Championships.
The competitors had to drink 12 ounces of milk prior to each lap around the track at WCHS for a total of 48 ounces during the mile run competition. Runners were penalized if they vomited during the unique event.
Allison Miller won the girls race for the second straight year. The junior, who helped lead her WCHS cross country team to a 12th place finish at the State Finals in the fall, clocked in a top time of 8:03.
Owen Glogovsky captured the top spot in the boys race. The WCHS senior, who was 37th overall at the State Finals this past fall, finished in a winning effort of 7:23.
Mallory Hooks placed second in the girls’ race in a time of 8:25 with Hannah Dawson taking third place in 9:15.
Gary Keyes was runner-up in the boys run in a time of 7:37 and Devin Dawson placed third with a time of 7:47.
