Velma M. White-Smith
Velma M. White-Smith, 93, a lifetime resident of Wabash County, passed away at 10:59 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2016 at Parkview Wabash Hospital, Wabash.
She was born to the late Walter V. and Tessie (Garst) Hawley June 13, 1922, in Wabash.
Velma married Curtis Eugene White Jan. 24, 1953. He passed away Feb. 4, 1984. She then married Jim Smith. He proceeds her in death.
She was a member of Church of Christ at Wabash. Velma bowled in Wabash Ladies Civic League, was a square dancer, a member of Wabash Saddle Club as an officer and was part of Miss-Sala-Bash camping club. She loved to camp and enjoyed her family, including her 35 nieces and nephews, whom she helped raise.
She is survived by a daughter, Diana (David) Heath, LaFontaine; foster daughter, Rosemary (Jennings) Gibson-Glenn, Thurmont, Md.; four grandchildren: Angela (Heath) Pier, Wabash, Suzanne (Heath) Schoby, Wabash, Sheri (Glenn) Schaffer, Virginia, and Lori (Glenn) Swick, Maryland; and eight great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Church of Christ at Wabash with Josh Fennell officiating. Burial will follow at LaFontaine IOOF Cemetery, LaFontaine.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at McDonald Funeral Home, Wabash.
