Max Miller Named Veteran Of The Month
WARSAW — The county commissioners’ meeting kicked off Tuesday, Feb. 9, with naming Max Miller, Warsaw, as February’s Veteran of the Month. He is a veteran of the Army Air Corp and the Air Force. Miller went into service immediately after graduation in 1948 and served until December, 1954. Miller is a member of the Pierceton American Legion as department sargent of arms, he’s a Shriner, member of the VFW and volunteers for Habitat for Humanity.
Miller was born in New Paris, but moved to Warsaw after he was released from service Dec. 27, 1954. He has three children who live in Pierceton.
Mitchell also presented the board with the finance and organization and investment policy report. Mitchell stated the 2015 interest recap “was a little bit brighter and we are going in the right direction.” The grand total from bank account interests in 2015 was $69,949.71, with an increase in interest of $6,160.60 from the previous year. The report was accepted.
Jennifer Vandeburg, office of community and rural affairs, was in attendance for the meeting to announce she was the new community liaison of OCRA for the state. Vandeburg explained that OCRA, “is a state agency charged with helping local communities stay relevant and economically vibrant, so they can continue to grow.”
OCRA has many programs aimed toward helping lower-to-moderate income communities build a relevant and economically thriving place where people want to live, work and grow.
“The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs works with local, state and national partners to provide resources and technical assistance to aid communities in shaping and achieving their vision for economic development.”
In other business:
- Dave Baumgartner was appointed to the Child Protection Services board.
- Greg Mitchell was reappointed to the Lakeland regional sewer board.
- Ron Robinson reported the safety glass in the jail needed replaced because it is cracked. There was a unanimous approval for $9,800 to replace the glass.
- Robinson also asked for $8,900 to replace an all-in-one copier. It was approved unanimously.
The next commissioners meeting is 9 a.m. Feb. 23.
