Milford Mother Using Blog Fame To Give Back
MILFORD — The wild world of blogging can be a treacherous place. Between the anonymity of keyboard commenting and the continuous struggle to grow an audience, blogging can be quite a balancing act.
One young Milford woman has taken on the challenge and seen her page bloom since she began sharing her candid life stories. Now, she has teamed up with other local community members and businesses to give back to those who have helped her along the way.
Jonna Miller, 23, said she has always had an interest in blogging. “I always wanted to be a blogger, but didn’t know where to start.” She said some Facebook friends encouraged her based on her outgoing and humorous personality, and she began to jot down her (digital) thoughts in November 2015.
“The post that has gotten the most attention was, surprisingly, my first one I’d written,” said Miller. “It’s titled ‘If your working husband makes you feel lonely, do his laundry.’” Miller said her one post has been shared more than 800,000 times and has been viewed in every country in the world. Larger sites such as GodVine, ForEveryMom and The Independent Journal made contact with Miller about re-publishing her post, which added even more exposure to her small-town blog.
Miller said she is inspired by everyday events, especially as she lives out her days as a stay-at-home mother and wife. “I just try to make it personal, relatable and honest,” said Miller. “I like to throw in some humor to some, while others are pretty serious issues I address.”
“I’m never short on ideas, because I always have something to say,” added Miller. “Just ask the people closest to me — I talk a lot.”
Since her blog has garnered her so much digital fame, Miller reached out to the Kosciusko County community for help. As a Valentine’s Day gift, Miller is offering a six month membership to the new YMCA in Warsaw, a single or couples photo shoot with local photographer Teddy Pieper complete with hair and makeup or free haircut and color by local stylist Kassie Perzanowski. To enter, visitors to Miller’s page, The Real Blunt Blonde, must fill out an entry form and “like” all the Facebook pages of the participating donors.
Miller said the giveaway is a fun, simple way to say thanks for all the support. She continues to brainstorm blog ideas mattering to real people and hopes to add more ways to give back in the future.
