Margaret V. ‘Maggie’ Black
Margaret V. “Maggie” Black, 82, rural Akron, passed at 5 a.m. Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester.
She was born on Nov. 1, 1933, in Pendleton, to Richard and Irene (Umbenhour) Hodges. She was married on Nov. 3, 1951, in Akron, to Gene Black, he survives. Maggie was a homemaker and worked for R.R. Donnelley and Sons of Warsaw, retiring after 24 years.
She was a 1951 graduate of Mentone High School. She attended the Akron Church of God. Maggie enjoyed reading, collecting glass, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband: Gene Black, Akron; daughters: Amy Black, Akron; Arissa (Dan “Jake”) Grossman, Akron; sons: Allen (Janet) Black, Akron; Henry “Hank” (Susan) Black, Warsaw; ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother: Cornileus Hodges, North Carolina; brother-in-law: Arthur Sohlke, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents: Richard and Irene Hodges; son: Amber A. Black; daughter: Althena Black; granddaughter: Catherine Grossman; two sisters; and four brothers.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4. Burial will be at Nichols Cemetery, Akron.
