Violet ‘LaVon’ Steffen
Violet “LaVon” Steffen, 97, Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully at 5:28 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at Golden Years Homestead in Fort Wayne, with her son and daughter-in-law at her side.
Mrs. Steffen was born on Jan. 29, 1919, in Allen County, a daughter of Edward E. and Mabel (Geiger) Gordon. She spent her formative years in Churubusco, and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1937. Violet married Ralph Miller on April 17, 1938. He preceded her in death in 1964. On November 22, 1967 she was married to Chester L. Steffen. He preceded her in death in 2006. She was employed at Pines of America Toy Factory, and retired in 1983.
Mrs. Steffen was a member of Grace Brethren Church, Fort Wayne.
The surviving relatives include her son: Melvin (Marie) Miller, Madison, Wis.; stepson: Donald Steffen, Fort Wayne; her brother: Raymond (Jo Ann) Gordon; two sister-in-laws: Edith Gordon; Margie Gordon; a granddaughter; Elaine (Greg Streets) Miller, Marion, Iowa; a grandson: Adam (Sarah) Miller, Portland; step-granddaughter; Melanie (Matt) Farmer, Fort Wayne; two great-grandchildren: Morgan Farmer; Mitchell Farmer. In addition to her parents and spouses, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Virgil; Clifford; and Norman Gordon; sisters: Geneva Gordon; and Inez Caywood.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Sheets and Childs Funeral Home, with Rev. Bob Arenobine, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Sheets and Childs Funeral Home from 2 p.m. until the start of the service. Burial will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
