Walter L. Hatch
Walter L. Hatch, 90, Churubusco, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at his home in Churubusco.
Mr. Hatch was born on May 5, 1925, in Allen County, a son of Howard and Leah (Sloffer) Hatch. He spent his formative years in Hunterrtown, and graduated from Huntertown High school in 1943. On May 29, 1945, he was married in Columbia City to Audra Powell, the couple moved to their current home in Churubusco in 1950.
He was employed at Fruehaut, and retired after 42 years of service. Mr. Hatch was a long time member of the former Ari Church of God, he had attended Good News Baptist Church. His wife of 66 years, preceded him in death on Dec. 18, 2011.
Surviving relatives include his son: Vaughn Hatch, Springdale, Ark.; a niece whom the couple raised: Sharon (Michael) Geiger, Columbia City; two granddaughters: Lisa (Kelly Lewis) Hatch, Rogers, Ark.; and Melissa (Jeffrey) Stout; a grandson: Martin Beasley; six great-grandchildren: Easton Hatch; Brett Reinhardt; Lauren Hatch; Justin Stout; Morgan Beasley; and Brooke Beasley. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Chuck Hatch; daughter-in-law: Janet Hatch; and a grandson: Christopher Michael Hatch.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Good News Baptist Church, with Chaplin Kurt Snyder, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Good News Baptist Church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in the Covington Memorial Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum, Fort Wayne. Sheets and Childs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
