Charles Robert ‘Bob’ Guard
Charles Robert “Bob” Guard, 90 , formerly of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, in Tavares, Fla.
Bob was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Bremen, moving to Arcadia, Fla. in 1956. He moved to Tavares in 2014. Bob was a carpenter contractor. He worked for the DeSoto County High School as carpenter shop teacher and basketball coach. He worked closely with the 4-H Club. He loved tending to his goats and many pet animals. Bob graduated high school and joined the Navy during WWII. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and the Victory Medal. He was a generous man. Bob had a good sense of humor, a positive attitude, and was a good storyteller. He never met a stranger. He loved to donate to the St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital. Bob was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors are his beloved wife: Nichakon ‘Pat’ Cheangton Guard, Tavares, Fla.; three daughters: Susan Dazey; Bobbie (Paul) Erickson; Raynae Skinner; three sons: Garry (Mary) Guard; Randy Guard; Bill (Phyllis) Sardi; grandchildren: Debbie Latimer; Cheryl Keller; Tara Kay Woebse; Amy Nizamoff; Christopher Erickson; Randall Guard; Caleb Guard; Sabrina Stainbrook; Robert (Rosa) Stainbrook; great-grandchildren: Josh Dazey; Cacee Keller; Jamee Keller; Kimberly Woebse; Cody Woebse; Bret Nizamoff; Tori Nizamoff; Steven Erickson; Bobbie Erickson; Cash Erickson; Shelby Stainbrook; Aiden and Julian Stainbrook; great-great-grandchild: Nehemiah Camarillo; sister: Phyllis Walters, Nappanee; brother: Dean Guard, Nappanee; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his spouse: Frances Marie Guard; a daughter: Karen K. Tanner; two brothers: Wayne Guard; Paul Guard; and three sisters: Dollie Corwin; Lucille Parcell; and Marjory Roeder.
He always said that his greatest accomplishment was having seven good children. He had three words to live by, Helping Hands, Guiding Light, and Caring Heart.
A celebration of life for Mr. Guard will begin be from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia, Fla. The US Navy Honor Guard will render Military Honors at 2 p.m.
