Triton Announces Latest HOF Class
BOURBON – The Triton High School Athletic Department is proud to announce the next class to be inducted into the Triton Athletic Hall of Fame. The class of 2016 will be the sixth class inducted.
The Hall of Fame will induct candidates in the following categories: Athlete, Coach, Alumni, and Contributor. To be eligible to be inducted as an athlete, the candidate must be a graduate of Triton High School and must have participated in interscholastic athletics while at Triton. The selection committee will be looking for those athletes who set themselves apart by receiving, among other things, conference and state-wide recognition.
In order to be eligible to be inducted as a coach, one must have coached at Triton High School for at least five years and must be inactive at the time of the induction. An alum is a Triton graduate who has made it a purpose to be involved with athletics beyond high school (ex. officiating, broadcasting, college coach, etc). A contributor is someone who has given of themselves for the betterment of the Triton athletic department.
The first athlete to be inducted is 2003 graduate Ashli Senff Faulkner. Faulkner was a ten-time varsity letter winner earning two letters in volleyball, four letters in basketball, and four letters in track. She received all-conference honors in basketball three times and once in volleyball. Faulkner earned MVP honors in volleyball in 2002, basketball in 2002 and 2003, and track in 2002 as well as being voted the Female Athlete of the Year in 2003. She was a member of the 2002 Volleyball All-State team for class 2A, as well as the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Basketball Second-Team All-State, the Associated Press All-State Honorable Mention, and is the Triton career scoring leader with 1,672 points. Faulkner went on to play basketball at the University of Evansville.
The second athlete to be inducted is 1973 graduate Brad Sellers. A nine-time letter winner, Sellers earned three letters in football, two letters in basketball and four letters in track. He earned all-conference honors in football and basketball. Sellers was the 1972 football team MVP as well as the 1973 basketball team MVP. Along the way he was a Marshall County basketball and sectional first-team selection in 1973. In track, Sellers qualified for the IHSAA State Finals in track in both the long jump and the 220-yard dash and was named the Male Athlete of the Year for Triton in 1973.
The third athlete to be inducted into the Triton Athletic Hall of Fame is 1971 graduate Jon Parker, who was a seven-time varsity letter winner earning one letter in football, two in basketball and four in golf. He was
named the MVP of the golf team three times. Parker was a member of the 1970 football team that finished 8-1 under coach Charlie Smith.
Former volleyball, basketball and track coach Jan Caudle will be the fifth coach inducted into the Hall. She began teaching health and physical education in 1972 and coached and taught until 1986. During that time, Coach Caudle served as the head coach for the volleyball and track teams and also coached basketball from 1972-76. Coach Caudle’s 1976 volleyball team won the first sectional championship in the sport in Triton history. She later went on to serve as a principal at Roncalli, DeKalb and Union City High School as well as West Side Middle School in Union City.
Ball Auction and Realty, a locally owned auction and real estate company, will be inducted as the 2016 Hall of Fame Contributor. Owned and operated by Daryl Ball, Ball Auction has been a dedicated contributor to the Triton athletic department. Ball Auction and Realty has been generous with contributions through advertising and other means such as sponsoring annual events and activities of the Triton School Corporation.
The Hall of Fame weekend will kick off with recognition at halftime of the Triton-Knox boys basketball game on Feb. 26. The festivities will be continued during the Induction Banquet at 6 p.m. on Feb. 27 at the Back Forty Banquet Center in Bourbon.
Tickets for the banquet can be purchased in the Triton High School athletic office beginning Jan. 27. Tickets are $25 per person and will include a meal. Tickets will also be sold at the home boys basketball games through Feb. 19.
