FORT WAYNE – Lakeland Christian hung around with Cornerstone Christian Tuesday night, but the Cougars couldn’t quite catch the hosts in a 64-61 Cornerstone win.
Cornerstone made its opportunities count when it had to in the fourth quarter, hitting 8-12 free throws in the final stanza. Tevian Nelson made five of those in the fourth quarter and finished with nine points for Cornerstone. Michael Rogers and Airyah Thomas each scored 15 points to lead the home side.
Lakeland hung tough, but couldn’t quite get over the hump despite a big effort from Jon Harmon. The senior guard scored a game-high 16 points to go with 11 rebounds. Harmon was 10-15 from the free throw line in the contest. Carter Twombly added nine points and five boards and Josh McDaniel scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half.
Skylar Harris chipped in six points and eight boards for the Cougars, which sit at 1-15 overall. LCA will host Clinton Christian Saturday night.
