Kosciusko Cares Offers safeTALK Classes
NORTH WEBSTER — Kosciusko Cares is sponsoring an important community training called safeTALK from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Feb. 27, at the North Webster Community Center. SafeTALK training is provided by the Indiana chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Most people with thoughts of suicide invite help to stay safe. SafeTALK alert helpers know how to use these opportunities to support that desire for safety.
As a safeTALK-trained suicide alert helper, you will be better able to:
- Move beyond common tendencies to miss, dismiss or avoid suicide.
- Identify people who have thoughts of suicide.
- Apply the TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen and KeepSafe) to connect a person with suicide thoughts to suicide first-aid intervention caregivers.
SafeTALK is a three-hour workshop that prepares anyone older than age 15, regardless of prior experience or training, become a suicide-alert helper.
This training meets the Suicide Prevention and Intervention Training Programs requirements for new teacher licensure.
Participation is limited to the first 40 people, ages 15 and older. Click here to register.
