The North Webster Community Public Library invites you to chase the winter blues away at our January Bash at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19. It will be a free evening of comedy entertainment and refreshments along with a re-cap of the library’s past year and projections for 2016.
Be prepared to laugh as Main on Main Comedy Improv Troupe performs their act of good clean fun with lots of audience participation. Our January Bash is open to the public and will be held in the North Webster Community Center Banquet Hall. It’s our way of thanking the community for their loyal patronage throughout the year. The library will close early at 6 p.m. to enable the library staff to attend.
Writer’s Corner starts off a new year with participants writing about their favorite historical figure and sharing their compositions at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18. Later at 5:30 p.m., R.E.A.D. Book Club meets to discuss “American Sniper” by Chris Kyle. February’s book will be “The Good Soldiers” by David Finkel. It’s a non-fiction book about the 2007 troop surge in Iraq that chronicles the deployment of the 2-16 “Rangers” as they experience the reality of war. If you haven’t read January’s book selection, be sure to pick up a copy of The Good Soldiers at the library and join the discussion at our February meeting on the third Monday.
Registration for the winter session of Preschool Story Time begins on Wednesday, Jan. 20, in the Youth Services Department. The 10-week winter session will be held every Wednesday morning beginning Feb. 3 through April 6. Parents have a choice of two time periods at 10:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. Geared toward ages 3-5, Preschool Story Time promotes early literacy skills as the children learn through stories, finger plays, songs, crafts, and fun. It also gives young children the opportunity to socialize with others. Although we encourage parents to register their child, visitors are always welcome to attend.
Looking for an alternative to video games and cartoons after school? Bring your school age children to Crafts and Stories at the library at 4 p.m. every Tuesday. The kids can enjoy doing crafts while listening to stories read by staff.
Only a few more days remain for Food for Fines. You have until this Saturday, Jan. 16, to exchange food items for unpaid library fines. For every food item you donate, $1 will be taken off your fine. The food collected will be used to re-stock the North Webster Food Pantry. Some restrictions apply, so check with the Circulation Desk for details.
