Michael D. Harrold
Michael D. Harrold, 69, of rural Columbia City, died unexpectedly at 3:22 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, in the emergency room of the Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born Sept. 28, 1946, in Warsaw, the son of Merl E. and Lucille (Stamper) Harrold. His formative years were spent in Akron. He attended Beaver Dam School and graduated from Akron High School.
After high school he lived in Fort Wayne, Akron, Rochester (where he operated a photography studio), Mentone and Warsaw before moving to Lancaster, Pa. From 1966 until 1971 he served in the United States Army Reserves. He was employed at R.R. Donnelley for 43 years, retiring in April 2008.
On September 28, 1982 he was united in marriage to Cathy Jean (Beachboard) Hannah. They moved to their home in rural Columbia City in June 2009 from New Holland, Pennsylvania.
He was a member of Grace Point Church of the Nazarene in Fort Wayne and formerly New Holland Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was a member of the Patriot Guard and Christian Motorcyclists Association. He inspired youth and in addition to working with the youth group in New Holland, he was the general manager at Bones Theater in Columbia City for the past several years. He also enjoyed photography, fishing, woodworking, music, drama and theater but especially spending time with his family. And he loved snow.
Surviving relatives include his wife: Cathy; a son: Michael Gail (Julie) Harrold, Columbia City; four grandchildren: Melanie; QUentin; Ian; and Danica Harrold; two daughters: Sarah Hannah, Metuchen, N.J.; and Catheran “Cat” Hannah, Los Angeles, Calif.; and a sister: Kathy (Steve) Tucker, Mentone. His parents preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.
Preferred memorials are to American Heart Association or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
