Jackie S. Cumberland
Jackie S. Cumberland, 53, of Akron, passed at 12:40 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at Parkview Regional Medical Center of Ft. Wayne, after being in failing health for a year.
She was born on May 11, 1962, in Warsaw, to Ronald E. and Dixie S. (Krebs) Secrist. She was married on Nov. 9, 1980, in Mentone, at the Mentone United Methodist Church to Greg A. Cumberland, he survives.
She had worked at Tippecanoe Valley School for 21 years. She enjoyed being a SWOOP Reading instructor for the last nine years at Akron Elementary School.
She was a 1980 graduate of Tippecanoe Valley High School where she swam and was a Vikette. She was a member of the Mentone United Methodist Church. Jackie enjoyed going with her husband to Tin Caps games, baking cakes, shopping, especially on black Friday, as well as spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband: Greg Cumberland, Akron; mother: Dixie Secrist, Mentone; daughter: Heather (Doug) Corliss, Greenwood; son: Derek Cumberland, Fortville; sisters: Robin (Phil) Arnold, Monroe; Penny (Mike) Smith, Estonia; brother: Tim Secrist, Warsaw.
She was preceded in death by her father: Ronald E. Secrist (2003); and sister: Toni Secrist (1968).
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at Mentone United Methodist Church, 116 E. Main St., Mentone. Pastor Rev. Amber Karkosky-Litten will officiate. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery, Akron. Visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, at Hartzler Funeral Home.
