Indiana, Purdue Universities Banning Hoverboards
BLOOMINGTON — A growing number of universities are saying “not here” to one of the country’s most popular and possibly dangerous Christmas presents.
Indiana University Bloomington campus joined other universities in banning hoverboards from residence halls. Students may not put them in their rooms, use them in hallways or charge them in the halls.
Purdue announced similar restrictions, and other universities in Indiana are considering similar bans. Butler University has banned hoverboards from its campus due to fire and other safety concerns, the university police announced Thursday.
In making the decision, an IU spokesperson cited fire and other safety concerns. There have been numerous fires associated with the popular Christmas gift, some of which have been documented on social media.
Some airlines have even banned passengers from bringing them on their planes.
IU Bloomington students may bring them to campus and ride them around, but they may not bring them inside their residence halls.
