Top-Ranked IWU Bests Bethel
MISHAWAKA – The Bethel College men’s basketball team came up just short Saturday in its bid to knock off top-ranked Indiana Wesleyan.
The Wildcats pulled away late in the contest to top the No. 7 Pilots 97-90 in a key Crossroads League clash in the Wiekamp Center on the Bethel College campus.
IWU, which improves to 15-1 overall and 3-1 in league play, led 43-38 at halftime.
Clay Yeo had a big game for the Pilots. The junior guard and former Triton High School star poured in 27 points. He also dished out five assists.
Gage Ott finished with 18 points and Travis Smith 17 as five players scored in double figures for the host Pilots.
Jordyn Coon, who played at Warsaw, added 10 points and six rebounds for Bethel.
Lane Mahurin scored a career-high 27 points to lead the way for the Wildcats. Jonny Marlin had 20 points for IWU, which also had five players score in double figures.
Bethel drops to 12-3 overall and 2-2 in conference action.
Bethel plays at No. 4 Marian and IWU hosts Goshen College in league games Tuesday night.
