Richard E. Holderread
Richard E. Holderread, 96, Walkerton, passed away at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth.
Richard was born on March 4, 1919, in Marshall County, to John and Delcie (Lemert) Holderread. On Dec. 17, 1938, Richard married the former O. Irene Klinedinst. They loved to travel and spend winters in Florida. The Holderreads have lived their entire lives in the Marshall County area. Irene preceded Richard in passing on Oct. 6, 2007.
Richard has enjoyed farming most his life, having raised livestock and chickens; he also enjoyed collecting eggs on the farm. He also worked at Coral Corporation in Bremen and in several foundries as a Journeyman. Richard was a very faithful member of the Blissville Church of the Brethren, where he served as Sunday school teacher and had held every position he could in the leadership of the church. Richard will be fondly remembered by all his family and friends.
Richard is survived by his daughter: Sharon (Wayne) LaFollette, Walkerton; his grandchildren: Lisa (Kurtis) Vardaman, Nappanee; Rose (Robert) Tracy, South Bend; Gary and Lynne LaFollette, Waraw; great-grandsons: Brandon LaFollette; Tyler LaFollette; and Daniel LaFollette; his great-granddaughter: Kristin (Justin) LaFollette-Samson; and Tori Tracy. Richard and Irene also raised two foster children: Gloria (Fries) Hargarther; and Richard Fries. He is preceded in passing by his wife: Irene; foster daughter: Katherine (Fries) Meyer; sister: Lela Ruby; and his two brothers: Othel Holderread; and Walter Holderread.
The funeral service will be at Blissville Church of the Brethren, Plymouth, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, with Pastor Brandon Schadek officiating. There will be visitation prior to the service from 11 a.m. until the time of services in the church. After the service there will be a committal services in Tyner Cemetery, Tyner. Van Gilder Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Blissville Church of the Brethren, Plymouth.
