FRANKLIN — It was the ultimate Christmas surprise for a woman in Franklin Sunday.
Not only did Eva Goeb get an unexpected visit from her son and daughter-in-law, she also got to meet her new granddaughter, Melissa Faith.
The big surprise was that Eva didn’t know she was a grandmother.
“We hid our secret for almost 10 days before we could fly home,” Miranda said.
She and her husband, Donny, had been a dual Air Force family since 2008, until Miranda retired in September so that they could start a family and begin the adoption process. They were stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in October and immediately began the adoption process.
They adopted Melissa Faith, nicknamed Lily, from an acquaintance of someone Donny was deployed with in the past. They wanted the adoption to be personal.
They found out they would be parents Nov. 12, met the birth mother Nov. 25 and Lily was born Dec. 8.
“We chose not to tell our families due to so many unknowns,” Miranda said. “We wanted to protect our hearts and theirs. We were taking a huge leap of faith. Once baby Lily was officially placed with us, to become our daughter, we decided that it was not the type of news to be shared over the phone.”
So, they decided to make a surprise trip home to Franklin for the holidays.
“Neither of our families thought we were coming home for Christmas, let alone bringing a baby,” Miranda said. “They were shocked, enamored, in awe and in love simultaneously.
“We are so blessed by Lily, her birth parents and our families. It will be quite the Christmas to remember!”
