Rochester Rules The Roost
ROCHESTER – There would be no shot heard ’round the state Wednesday night. Rochester, the No. 1 team in Class 2-A, played like it in a 60-22 blowout of Triton in girls hoops.
The Zebras exploded out of the gate in the first quarter, jumping out to a 26-4 lead in both offensive prowess and defensive stinginess. Rochester would hold Triton to just four makes in the first half and did the job cleanly, affording Triton just one trip to the free throw line the entire night. Triton shot just 26 percent on the evening (10-38) and were an abysmal 1-13 from behind the three-point arc.
Rochester had four players in double figures, led by Kennedy Musselman’s 14 points. Becky Malchow had 13 points, Alexa Holland 12 points and Keaton Stesiak 11 points. Morgan Ruff added eight points and five boards for the Zebras, which move to 10-0 on the year ahead of a Saturday matchup with North Miami.
Triton had Hannah Wanemacher at the top of the scoring chart with six points, but was just 2-12 from the floor and 1-8 from three as Rochester hounded the leading scorer all night. Sara Stevens, Shayla May and Brooklyn Beatty all finished with four points.
The Triton JV used a game-high 13 points from Kaitlyn Bailey in a 33-14 win over Rochester. Megan Nile had five points for the hosts.
Triton (4-9) will visit Pioneer Saturday in a Hoosier North Athletic Conference matchup.
