Darl W. Harvey
Darl W. Harvey, 85, of Royal Center passed away at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 5, 1930, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Ray and Jessie (Deford) Harvey. On Sept. 9, 1951, he married Lois M. Polen of Kewanna, she survives. He was a 1949 Grass Creek High School graduate. Darl was a lifelong dairy farmer retiring after 45 years. He was the last dairy farmer in operation in Harrison Township.
He was active in 4-H for the last 32 years with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, showing dairy cows. He was a 67 year member of Farm Bureau. Darl was a member of the Rochester Swingin’ Dudes Round and Square Dance Club and traveled to many of the state conventions.
Darl being a dairy farmer, loved to mow hay. He also enjoyed all sports, especially Purdue. Spring was his favorite time of year and he enjoyed mushroom hunting with his family on the family farm in Carroll County. Darl loved to joke and had a good sense of humor. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife: Lois Harvey, Royal Center; daughter: Debra (Stan) Young, Logansport; sons: Michael (Renda) Harvey, Lucerne; and Brian (Melissa) Harvey, Monticello; grandchildren: Carrie (Mike) Cripe, Royal Center; Greta (Josh) Jackson, Kewanna; Shae (Roman) Kmicikeycz, Avon; Lauren (Ryan) Layer, Monticello; Megan Lowe, Lafayette; Jordan (Jordan) Morrow, Lafayette; Kyle Harvey; Derek Berkshire, both of West Lafayette; and great-grandchildren: Gage; Hailey; Addie; Isaiah; Kennedy; Braylong; Kahlia; Bodhan; Roman; Lois; Ronnie; Garth; Aiden; Ava; Jagger; Jada and Julian.
He was also preceded in death by infant twin brother and sister: Earl and Pearl Harvey, and brothers: Dale Harvey; Bruce Harvey; Kenneth Harvey; and Estel Harvey.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center with Pastor Dirk Raderstorf officiating. Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, at the funeral home and also one hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be at Davis Cemetery, Burnettsville.
