Leesburg Students ‘Invest’ In Stock Market
LEESBURG — Students in sixth grade at Leesburg Elementary had the opportunity to use real world examples to see if they could make their money grow.
Each student followed their own stock on NASDAQ over the course of eight weeks. They were in charge of calculating the amount gained or lost per one share for their chosen company each day. Students were given $1,000 of pretend money and were asked to determine how many shares they could afford for this amount.
After eight weeks, they compiled all of their data and found the median change in one share, mean change for their shares overall, graphed their results using various programs on the computer, as well as determined how much money they gained and/or lost at the end of the project. Each student presented this information at a “stock market fair” in front of teachers, parents, and adults from the community.
