Triton Remains Perfect In HNAC
BOURBON – Triton has had a rough start to the girls basketball season, but have developed a silver lining. A 39-27 win by Triton over Caston Saturday night keeps the Lady Trojans undefeated in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference.
Triton moved to 3-0 in the HNAC standings and 4-8 overall. Hannah Wanemacher led the Lady Trojans again with 18 points and chipped in three steals.
An all-around team effort saw Charlotte Morris score eight points and haul in four boards, Nicole Sechrist score four points and get five rebounds, and Sara Stevens do it on the defensive end with five boards and two steals.
Triton was without the services of Jaela Meister, who sat out after injuring her knee Wednesday against Tippecanoe Valley.
Catherine Dively led the Comets (2-9, 0-1 HNAC) with 13 points and four rebounds and Jaycee Denton added eight points and three boards.
Caston committed 27 turnovers in the game and shot just 30 percent (11-37) as a team. Triton didn’t light up the floor, hitting just 12 of 43 shots, a 28 percent figure. Triton, however, was 12-17 from the free throw line, Caston just 0-2 from the stripe.
The JV contest was no contest as Triton obliterated Caston 58-2. No statistics were provided from the game.
Triton’s next opponent should provide a much stiffer challenge as the Lady Trojans will hit the road Wednesday for a date with Class 2-A No. 1 Rochester, which sit at 9-0 on the season. Caston will meet Knox Tuesday.
