DeWayne L. Carpenter Jr.
DeWayne L. Carpenter Jr., 76, Elkhart, died 12:30 p.m. Thursday Nov. 19, 2015, at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Nov. 8, 1939, in Mishawaka to DeWayne L. and Letha Arlene (Christophel) Carpenter Sr. He married Ruby (Nusbaum) Carpenter on Nov. 13, 1965.
Surviving are his wife: Ruby, Elkhart; sons: Timothy Carpenter, Elkhart; Mike (Lori) Carpenter, Goshen; daughter: Rita (Eric) Bergman, Nappanee; brothers: Richard Carpenter, Mishawaka; Jerry (Pat) Carpenter, Goshen; sister: Janice (Orv) Miller, Wolcottville; mother: Letha Arlene Carpenter, Goshen; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
DeWayne was a graduate of Bethany High School and a member of Yellow Creek Mennonite Church. He was a mechanic and millwright at NIBCO and retired from Lavern’s Auto Repair. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and chopping wood and volunteered for a number of organizations including MDS.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. service Monday, Nov. 23, all at Yellow Creek Mennonite Church, Goshen. Pastor Wes Bontreger will officiate and burial will be at Yellow Creek Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Mennonite Disaster Service or Amigo Center.
