Warsaw Pair Charged With Robbing, Beating Man
WARSAW — A Warsaw man and woman have been arrested after assaulting another individual and were among those who stole the man’s wallet with $500 cash and his iPhone.
The victim, Cristobal Flores, was taken to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. According to the affidavit of probable cause, Flores was placed in intensive care with internal bleeding behind his right eye. He had lost vision in that eye. Testing was also being conducted to check for hemorrhaging on the brain.
Armando Gutierrez Jr., and Lori Marie Aguilera were booked in the Kosciusko County Jail Monday evening, Nov. 9. Charges were filed on Nov. 2.
Gutierrez Jr., 52, booked with an address of 340 E. Levi Lee Road, Warsaw, with a 1210 Main St., Lafayette, address on court documents, has been preliminarily charged with robbery, with serious bodily injury, a level 2 felony, and battery causing serious bodily injury, a level 4 felony.
Aguilera, 38, 340 E. Levi Lee Road, Warsaw, has been preliminarily charged with robbery, with serious bodily injury, a level 2 felony, and aiding, inducing or causing battery causing serious bodily injury, a level 5 felony.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Officer James Smith was called to a report of battery on Nov. 1. He observed Flores with a swollen right eye and multiple swollen contusions to the forehead and back of the head. Flores stated Apolonio Corral had arrived at his residence earlier in the day and assaulted him because he had been with Corral’s daughter the night before.
Flores also told police while he was sleeping on the couch at a friend’s home, he was awaken by Aguilera slapping him on the face. He then saw Apolonio Corral Jr., Valente Ceballos Jr., and Gutierrez. Corral had a black pistol with him, but it was never pointed at him. Corral Jr., Ceballos Jr., and Gutierrez then began hitting him on the head and face repeatedly. The three took his black wallet containing $500 and his white iPhone, valued at $200.
Smith spoke with Oscar Mejia, who was also at the residence. He told police he heard a knock on the door and Aguilera, Corral Jr., Ceballos Jr., and Gutierrez entered the house. He observed Aguilera walk over to where Flores was sleeping and begin slapping him. When Flores woke the other three began hitting him. He exited the home leaving the other four inside the residence.
