Free Kids Party, Parade And Tree Lighting
NORTH WEBSTER — A free children’s Christmas party, parade and town tree lighting is being sponsored by the North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, and all area children are invited. Called “A Visit with Santa,” the fun begins inside the North Webster Community Center from 3-5 p.m. followed by the kids and parents walking two blocks following Santa on a local fire truck to Pilcher’s Shoes lawn to light the North Webster Christmas tree.
President Sue Ward, Sue’s Creations, shared the information at the regular chamber meeting noon Monday, Nov. 9, at the American Legion Post 253. Free games and activities, bounce houses, a visit with Santa Claus and a free picture, plus pizza will await area children when they arrive for the festivities. The parade will leave the North Webster Community Center south parking lot at 5:15 p.m. and proceed down SR 13 to Pilcher’s in the heart of downtown North Webster. The chamber board has voted for new tree lights in double the amount previously used.
Chamber secretary and chairman of the event Stacey Cox, Pletcher Insurance, passed a volunteer sign up sheet around. While it was well responded to by those attending, more volunteers will be welcomed. Contact Cox, (574) 834-3414 to sign up. Fliers are being passed out to North Webster Elementary School students.
Ward announced the new chamber website is up and running. Ben Ashpole, Updenity, was the chairman of the committee to revise and rejuvenate the site. More will be added as time passes but Ward urged all to check it out, www.northwebster.com. Upcoming events can be posted directly on the site. The chamber newsletter is also being posted on the site. Steven Hanford, Lions Karate Academy, is the editor.
November Business of the Month chosen by the chamber of commerce board is Maverick Promotions, rural Leesburg. It has been involved with the chamber for three years and is a growing company selling and personalizing promotional products.
Chamber member North Webster United Methodist Church is holding a shoe drive for the chamber through its Upward Bound Basketball. The organization will be collecting shoes between December and March. Shoe donations are still being accepted by the chamber at the North Webster Community Center and the chamber office in the Tippecanoe Township Building, 102 S. Morton Drive.
Members were urged by Ward to start thinking about nominations for the person of the year and large and small businesses of the year. The awards banquet will be held early in 2016.
The next general meeting of the chamber will be noon Monday, Dec. 14, at the North Webster American Legion Post 253, 756 S. SR 13.
