UPDATE: Pedestrian Suffered Bruised Lung, Concussion
PIERCETON — Calvin J. Beard, 19, Goshen Road, Fort Wayne, was released from Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 27, following a vehicle/pedestrian accident earlier that morning. He suffered a concussion and a bruised lung according to the police report.
The accident occurred at 7:04 a.m. on East Pierceton Road, west of East Washington Road, Pierceton.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Officer Mike Mulligan reports Kegan D. O’Brien, 24, South SR 25, Mentone, was eastbound on Pierceton Road in a 2007 Chevrolet van. He stated he was going no faster than the speed limit, 55 miles per hour, when all of a sudden there was an individual walking at him on the white line. Kegan told police that it was almost instantly that he hit the pedestrian.
O’Brien stopped and called 911, turning his vehicle around to see if he could locate the pedestrian. Due to the passenger side headlight having been broken out he couldn’t not see into the ditch.
A Pierceton firefighter located Beard while he was responding to the scene. Beard was wearing a dark colored long sleeve sweat shirt, black shorts and black shoes and long dark hair. Beard told officials he was out for a walk and was very disoriented, not sure where he was coming from or where he was headed.
Lutheran EMS Kosciusko transported Beard to Parkview Hospital.
Damage to O’Brien’s vehicle was estimated up to $5,000.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Lutheran EMS Kosciusko and Pierceton Fire Department.
