LCA Hands Out Fall Sports Awards
WINONA LAKE – Lakeland Christian Academy recently hosted its annual Fall Sports Awards night on campus in Winona Lake to honor its athletes that competed in soccer, volleyball and cross country. In attendance were approximately 225 students, coaches and parents.
Director of Development Scott Wiley said, “It is great to see such a high percentage of our student body being able to participate in athletics. Over the course of a year approximately 80 percent of our student body will participate in a sport at the junior high or varsity IHSAA level.”
Below are the athletes that received special individual awards:
In the front row are, from left, Cross Williams, (Varsity Soccer – Most Valuable Player); Josh Gervasi (Varsity Cross Country – Most Valuable Runner); Heather Plastow (Varsity Volleyball – Defensive Player of the Year); and Cassadi Colbert (Varsity Volleyball – Newcomer of the Year).
In the second row are Jeremy Gross (Varsity Soccer – Most Improved); Brady Gross (JV Volleyball – Most Outstanding Player); Hannah Delp (Varsity Volleyball – Coach’s Award); Lyness Mudila (JV Volleyball – Most Improved); and Alex Plastow (Varsity Cross Country – Mental Toughness).
In the third row are Garrett McCoomb (Varsity Soccer – Offensive Player of the Year); Ellen Kreider (JH Volleyball – Mental Attitude); Carissa Urschalitz (Varsity Volleyball – Senior Award); Brighty Walters (Varsity Volleyball – Senior Award); and Melissa Goss (Varsity Soccer – Defensive Player of the Year).
In the fourth row are Josiah Nissley (JH Soccer – Coach’s Award); Sadie Lemon (JH Volleyball – Leadership Award); Taylor Van Kirk (JH Volleyball – Mental Attitude); and Cami Dahms (JH Volleyball 8th – Most Valuable).
In the fifth row are Landon Paris (JH Soccer – Defensive Player Award); Drew Sigler (JH Soccer – Offensive Player Award); Gabriell Hygema (JH Volleyball – Most Improved Player); and Ryan Goss (Varsity Cross Country – Most Improved).
In the sixth row are Liza Schmitt (JH Volleyball – Mental Attitude); Mallory Phillips (JH Volleyball 7th – Most Valuable); and Nathaly Zapata (JV Volleyball – Cougar Award).
