James E. Holzinger
James E. Holzinger, 87, passed away Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, at Parkview Huntington Hospital.
Mr. Holzinger was born July 28, 1928, in Huntington, to Francis and Bertha (Hummer) Holzinger. His parents preceded him in death. He married Norma J. Young in 1953. Norma passed away May 21, 2015.
Jim was a 1946 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School. He served in the United States Army in Korea and the Naval Reserve. Jim retired from the Huntington City Fire Department in 1978 with 24 years of service, and holding the rank of Assistant Chief. After retirement, he worked for City Beverage. Jim was also the owner of Holzinger Electric.
Mr. Holzinger was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Huntington, Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. Post 2689 and North Webster American Legion Post. He bowled on the K of C team for years and was an avid golfer at Clear Creek Golf Course. Jim loved hunting and fishing in Minnesota.
He is survived by a son: Thomas E. (Pamela) Holzinger, Roanoke; daughter: Sue J. (Steve) Ward, North Webster; two sisters: Martha Murphy, Huntington; Mary Eagleson, New Haven; five grandchildren: Nick Holzinger; Craig (Emily) Holzinger; Parker Holzinger; Ashley Ward; and Nicole (Trent) Nabinger; and four great-grandhcildren: Jaxon Nabinger; Colton Nabinger; Lilia Holzinger; and Ethan Ward. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother: Mark E. Holzinger; and sister: Hilda Norris; and infant sister: Mildred Elizabeth Holzinger.
Calling hours will be held from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, with Recitation of the Rosary at 6 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, Huntington. Additional calling hours will be held from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, prior to the 10 a.m. Mass at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Huntington, with Fr. Ron Rieder, OFM Cap. presiding.
Burial will be in M. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN
